The Satellite Awards orbit around The Broken Circle Breakdown

The Oscars ceremony is only a week away, but the LUX Prize winner The Broken Circle Breakdown is already snatching awards in Hollywood. Felix Van Groeningen’s film has just been named Best International Film at the Satellite Awards.

The awards, organised by the International Press Academy, had selected The Broken Circle Breakdown as one of the competitors for the non-English-language film prize, alongside such acclaimed films as Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt, Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue is the Warmest Colour, Haifaa Al Mansour’s Wadjda, Asghar Farhadi’s The Past and Paolo Sorrentino’s LUX Prize Official Selection title The Great Beauty.

Van Groeningen’s story of love, sorrow and music has triumphed over all of its competitors – will it be able to replicate this feat this weekend? The Oscars aside, the film is also vying for the César Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The ceremonies will take place on Sunday 2 March and Friday 28 February, respectively. Keep a close eye on the big awards weekend!
