"The Lady", Luc Besson's biopic on Sakharov Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, screened in avant-première in Brussels

France's most prolific and international director and producer Luc Besson is coming to Brusselson Monday 19 December to present his latest feature at UGC Toison d'Or* : The Lady. Based on Burmese political activist Aung San Suu Kyi's life, the movie is a biopic and portrays the 1990 Sakharov Prize winner's life between 1989 and 1999. Chinese actress Michelle Yeoh plays the lead and is supported by actor David Thewlis in the role of her husband Dr Michael Aris.
 
The screening will start with a short video message from Aung San Suu Kyi herself, sent to the European  Parliament in the context of the Sakharov Prize network. Vice-President in charge of the LUX Prize Isabelle Durant will be there to introduce this video to Mr Besson and the audience and to highlight the European  Parliament's  sustainable commitment to promote the human rights and culture.
 
The Lady will be relased in Belgium on December 21, 2011.
