European Parliament’s 2013 LUX Prize edition formally kicks off this month

After a very good outcome of the LUX prize 2012 and of first edition of LUX FILM DAYS,  the Coordinators of Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament, endorsed on 20 of February the proposal for the 2013 LUX Prize Selection Panel.
 
The decision marks the kick-off of this year’s edition. New entry of this year Selection Panel are Francesca Feder, Aeternam Film, representing the 2012 LUX Prize Winner "Io sono Li"; Olivier Père, Director of ARTE Cinema; Jonathan Romney, Film critic at the Independent on Sunday and regular contributor to Sight and Sound and Screen International, and, as observer, Giorgio Gosetti, Artistic Director of Venice Days Film Festival.
 
To face the challenges of this new edition, the following members have been confirmed: the director of the Seville Film Festival José Luis Cienfuegos, Greek film critic Michel Demopoulos, Belgian distributor Stéphane de Potter (Cinéart), International relations responsible within Europa Cinemas Fatima Djoumer, director of the European Film Academy Marion Döring, Polish distributor & co-president of  Europa Distribution Jakub Duszynski (Gutek Films), the head of the education department at the Swedish Film Institute Per Ericsson, German critic Paul Peter Huth (ZDF 3-Sat),  secretary general of the Director’s Fortnight in Cannes Christophe Leparc, artistic director of the Karlovy Vary Festival Karel Och, Italian distributor Georgette Ranucci (Lucky Red), deputy director of the Sofia Film Festival Mira Staleva, and Hungarian audiovisual expert Éva Vezer.
 
Romanian director Radu Mihaileanu as well as Catherine Buresi (former deputy director of the Berlin Film Market) will remain in the Panel as Honorary members.
 
Aviva Silver (Head of Unit of the MEDIA Programme at the European Commission) and Roberto Olla (Eurimages’ executive director) are confirmed as Observers.
 
The three meeting of the Selection Panel will be held in Brussels, at the European Parliament, on 21 March, 25 April, and 7 June. Their task will be to select the 10 films which will run for the 2013 Official Selection and among them, the three of the 2013 Competition. The 3 films of the Competition will be watched by the Members of the European Parliament who will then vote for the Winner. The three film competing for the LUX prize will be also screened in the 28 Member States in the framework of the 2nd edition of the LUX FILM DAYS.
 
Spontaneous submissions are open until 17 April 2013: applications should be sent, making sure that they conform to the eligibility criteria for the prize. Those interested should fill in the Submission (.doc), and send a DVD to:
