7 March: Avant-Première in Brussels of Die Fremde, 2010 LUX Prize winner

On the occasion of the Belgian release of Die Fremde (When We Leave), the European Parliament Film Prize – LUX Prize is happy and proud to welcome again film director Feo Aladag at BOZAR, in Brussels.

The LUX Prize, ABC DistributionBOZAR and CINEMATEKUN Women and UN Regional Information CenterGoethe InstituteAmazone as well as Festival Elles Tournent jointly organise, on 7 March in Brussels, the Avant-Première of Die Fremde, in presence of Mrs Aladag.

This special event will be held in the eve of International Women's Day and will consequently launch the campaign of the United Nations entitled "Say NO – UNiTE to End Violence against Women".

A debate, under the aegis of the United Nations Women, will take place before the screening, at 6:30 PM. The speakers are Mrs María José Alcalá, Senior Advisor on Ending Violence Against Women, UN Women; Mrs Belinda Pyke, Director of Equality, Directorate-General Justice, European Commission; Mrs Emine Bozkurt, Member of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament and Mrs Pierrette Pape, Policy Officer & Project Coordinator of EWL Centre on Violence Against Women, European Women’s Lobby.

Once again the LUX Prize laureate, following Fatih Akin Auf der anderen Seite, Dardenne brothers Le silence de Lorna and Philippe Lioret Welcome, glances on sensitive contemporary topics: family and human relationships, discrimination and violence against women including domestic violence and so-called “honour killings”. These major social issues inspired Feo Aladag to write, direct and produce her first feature film. They reflect topics which the European Parliament debates and votes on.

Die Fremde has been selected in almost 80 international film festival and won many prizes.
Come, debate and watch the 2010 LUX Prize winner on 7 March 2011:
- 6:30 PM: debate about violence against women under the aegis of the United Nations
