The 2014 LUX Prize officially kicks off today!

In one of their last meetings of this European Parliament term, the coordinators of the Committee on Culture and Education approved the LUX Prize Selection Panel for 2014. Chaired by Mrs. Doris Pack, the Committee had a long exchange of views with Commissioner Mrs.  Androulla Vassiliou on all the achievements of the past five years and on the hope and perspectives for the future Parliament which will result from the EU elections of 25 May.
The 2014 LUX Prize Selection Panel will have the tasks of proposing, watching and selecting the films for the forthcoming Official Selection and Competition of the LUX Prize and for the 3rd edition of the LUX FILM DAYS – to begin in autumn 2014.
Besides the confirmed members, the following new members have joined the Selection Panel:

  • Mrs. Ivana IVISIC, audiovisual and cinema expert from Croatia;
  • Mr. Peter BOGNAR, distributor, festival programmer from Hungary;
  • Mr. Dirk IMPENS, producer of 2013 LUX Prize winner The Broken Circle Breakdown;
  • Mr. Giorgio GOSETTI, director of Venice Days and partner in 28 Times Cinema (who already sat as observer);
  • Mr. Matteo ZACCHETTI, deputy head of unit in the Creative Europe programme (who will sit as observer – much like Roberto Olla, executive director of the Eurimages Fund of the Council of Europe);
  • Mrs. Georgette RANUCCI and Mr. Michel DEMOPOULOS will sit as founder members.

The meetings will be held in Brussels in March, April and June, on the premises of the European Parliament. The Selection Panel will discuss and select ten films which will be part of the Official Selection. The announcement of these ten films will take place at the beginning of July at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Among these ten, three films will qualify for the Competition and will be subtitled in all European official languages.
Members of the European Parliament, individuals and cinema professionals can also submit films that meet the Elegible criteria before the 17 April 2014, if they so wish, using the registration form.
